Lizzy’s Latest – White House Black Market Rebel Suede Moto Boots

The weekend we took these pictures, we had no particular destination in mind.  Surrendering to wanderlust, we headed to Richmond, our default destination for adventure.  Eventually, we settled on the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden named after one of Richmond’s beloved citizens.  (more…)

Richmond, VA – Beaver Dam Creek Battlefield – Happy New Year!

Back in early December, my dad sent me, my mom, brother, and sister separate emails with the following question:

“Who in our family is the most excited by, desirous of, jazzed over toys?”

Our response was unanimous:  MOM!

Yes, even Mom said, “Mom.”  😉  (more…)

wed-1-img_3021-finalDue to the rain, we remained local for this photo shoot.  Dad and I drove to the Thomas Stone House in Port Tobacco, MD.  If you’re not familiar with the name, you’re not alone.  When I first moved to Southern Maryland, I had no idea who Thomas Stone was either.  However, I quickly learned that Thomas Stone was one of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence.  That is quite an accomplishment for a humble planter and lawyer. It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is next week!  I’ve been in a festive mood since the beginning of November.  I was at the mall and Hallmark was having a special on Christmas cards.  I could not help myself, I purchased two boxes of cards knowing I would probably only need one. (more…)

wed-1-img_1358-finalThis photo shoot continues our tour of the Petersburg National Battlefield.  This time we took pictures in an area where a handful of men from the Union army clandestinely dug a mine that reached the Confederate lines.  Once under the Confederate position, the mine was filled with explosives and detonated!  The explosion caused the Earth to tremble propelling Confederate men and artillery into the air and creating a huge crater that was at least 30 feet deep and approximately 120 feet wide!  (more…)

Sometimes, life’s wonderful moments happen unexpectedly.  About a month or so ago, my friend, Bill, surprised me.  He said he would be in my area attending his older brother’s pinning ceremony for promotion to Colonel in the United States Air Force!  I was so happy for Bill and his family because many years before, their father had a similar pinning ceremony when he was promoted to Colonel.  Their military service had come full circle and I can only imagine the pride and joy beaming from their hearts as Stephen was pinned. Visiting Civil War battlefields is a pastime my dad and I share.  So, anytime we can combine a visit with a photo shoot makes for a lively afternoon.  This shoot took place at the Petersburg National Battlefield.  It was here approximately 152 years ago that Union General Ulysses S. Grant lay siege to Petersburg in a successful attempt to destroy Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s army.  General Grant understood that devastating the Confederate’s main supply line at Petersburg would eventually secure the fall of Richmond, the Confederate capital.  (more…)

Lizzy’s Latest – 2016 Top 5 Fall Favorites

cover-shot-1The arrival of Fall, my favorite time of year, softens the blow of Summer’s adieu.  For me, routine replaces spontaneity and the countdown to Christmas begins!  🙂  Fall foliage captivates as I enjoy nature’s wandering work of art dancing all around me in vivid hues of yellow, orange, and red.  Fall’s ephemeral beauty decorates the landscape in a kaleidoscope of leaves while the aroma of firewood fills the crisp evening air, awakening the senses.              (more…)
