I am sooooo late with this post! With work and life so busy (as usual), I must confess, I’ve been procrastinating on the blog. Happy Fourth of July! Today we celebrate America’s birthday. It was 242 years ago today that the original 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. Today, it is a day for family and friends to come together and celebrate our nation’s birthday with barbecues, parades, concerts, fireworks, and the like. My family and I will certainly be participating in the festivities. 🙂 (more…)
Every Christmas I volunteer at the former Museum of the Confederacy (now the American Civil War Museum) for Court End Christmas. I’ve had the honor of being Santa’s Elf every year and it’s always great catching up with my favorite Santa – the real Santa! 😉

This Christmas was especially meaningful to me. I was enjoying the company of family and creating precious memories, but also grieving my dear friend and Manager, Anna, who was tragically killed in a tour bus crash in Mexico days before Christmas along with her 11-year old son, Daniel, and her recently widowed mother. One of the best things about living in the Washington DC area is the endless options for photo shoot locales. We decided to drive into Washington, DC to check out the Botanic Garden situated on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. We found great parking just across the street from it and only had to walk a short distance. I was looking forward to the shoot until we walked in: humidity greeted us and the tight walkways were streaming with visitors. I gave my dad a disapproving look, but he still wanted to take some “test” shots. We spent about 15 minutes there before I was over it. Diva behavior according to my dad! 😉 (more…)
As much as I love kids, there was a time when I never wanted any of my own. That mindset evolved to if I ever had kids, I only wanted boys. Then, my brother, Michael, and his wife, Shannon, had my niece, Kristin and that sentiment went out the window. (more…)
There have been times over the last year when a lack of photo shoot planning led to a reliance on spontaneity. This was one of those weekends. Call it procrastination or laziness, perhaps a little of both, but I had no particular destination in mind other than it had to be local. Dad suggested DC, but I was lukewarm to the idea. The thought of taking pics in a crowd didn’t appeal to me and I was also thinking about my dad’s aversion to jam-packed places. The last thing I wanted was an aggravated photographer. 😉 However, with no other option, DC became the default location. (more…)
Have you ever had the experience of being behind someone in line whose credit card was declined? You patiently wait as the person insists there must be some mistake! Ultimately, the person either buys less with cash or leaves empty handed. Either outcome makes for a very awkward situation. (more…)
