Lizzy’s Latest – 2018 Top 5 Fall Favorites

It is that time of year again when summer’s farewell lingers like the final notes of a beautifully composed piece of music.  The ambience is sublime and filled with mirthful memories of time well spent.  Holding on for one more hurrah and always one more until there is no more.  Parting is such sweet sorrow tempered by fall’s inevitable tomorrow.  Enticed, fall captivates with colorful landscapes and dancing leaves that fall from above.  The aroma of burning wood on crisp evenings signals the start of sweater weather, boots, and everything else we love about this new season.  For me, it is all of the above and of course, the annual Lizzy’s Latest Top 5 Fall Favorites!

  • Boots:  It is a given that boots will be my number one obsession every fall.  They are a great transition to cooler weather and amp up any outfit.  This season, designers are creating covet worthy looks with textures, patterns, and colors.  I have been seeing a lot of animal print, glitter, lace, and plaid.  The 80s trend is still hot and you better go West or bust with some fun cowboy inspired looks. Peep toes and sock boots continue to trend this year as well!  Finally, shades of white are still hot, but the “it” color this season is RED!

This gorgeous red boot from Jessica Simpson caught my eye. My favorite type of boots are slouchy boots and the stiletto heel makes this very sexy! This is my “it” boot of the season thus far and I am trying to refrain from buying the boot in other colors. 😉

I had been searching for a pair of white stiletto booties since last year to no avail. Then, I feasted my eyes on this fabulous bootie from Vince Camuto and was hooked! To me, it looks so elegant in this color. I can’t get over how much I love the slouchy texture at the top!

Here’s a modern twist to the western theme with Corral’s vision of a chic cowboy boot. The fringe and braiding details are envy worthy!

Get your sparkle on with this eye-catching boot from Giannni Bini.  Don’t you love the rhinestones and bow detail on the side?!

For my readers who appreciate high heeled boots, but just can’t wear them, how about this casual one from Style & Co? I love the whipstitch details and it blends in with that trending western theme.

There is so much fun going on with this bootie from Carlos by Carlos Santana. I love the braiding detail and the studs give it fashion flair! The mauve hue is fabulous too!

Peep toe boots are a great transition piece to fall. If you’re like me, you’re not quite ready to hide your polished toes this early in the season. 😉 This one from Vince Camuto is so chic and the smocked cinching around the ankle is unique.

If you’re on the fence about the animal print trend, here is a “gateway” bootie from White House Black Market. 😉 It is so sexy with just a touch of leopard print to ease you into the trend. To me, it screams good girl with a bit of naughtiness. 😉

I love the color of this peep toe from Vince Camuto. The crisscrossing leather straps make the boot so chic!

  • Sweaters:  Sweaters are a fashion staple as we head into fall.  Basic sweaters are nice, but I get so bored with basic and am always looking for something more.  As such, my love affair with sweater styles that bear a little shoulder continues this season.  I’m also incorporating sweaters with flare sleeves to my fashion collection.  I am loving ruffle sleeves, bell sleeves, puff sleeves…yep…you get the picture.  😉  I just love how fun and flirty they all are!

My favorite right now is from Boston Proper. The way it drapes over the shoulder is so sexy and very reminiscent of when Jennifer Beals made that look sexy in Flashdance.

I have this sweater from Loft Outlet in red. It takes a basic cold shoulder sweater up a fashion notch with the ruffles.

The ruffle sleeves on this one from Ann Taylor Factory is so feminine and sweet.

Color is making quite the statement on the catwalk this season. I am seeing colors like yellow, green, violet, neon pink, and fuchsia. This sweater from I.N.C. is picking up on that trend and I like the self-tie detail on the bell sleeves. It adds interest to the sweater.

One of my favorite casual tops to wear is a hoodie. They are easy to style with a pair of jeans. This one from Boston Proper is so effortless with the split hem and split flare cuffs.

  • Casual Sneakers:  My childhood was all about riding my skateboard and playing Star Wars with the boys (though they sometimes made me Princess Leia lounging on a neighborhood bench…sigh!).  Despite, I was quite the tomboy.  My footwear was casual sneakers (usually tennis shoes and Chucks).  Somewhere between now and then I had forgotten all about those kinds of shoes.  Happily, I rediscovered them while chasing adventure (and ghosts!) in Savannah, GA this summer.  I knew we would be doing a lot of walking (cemeteries, forts, etc), so I decided sneakers were the best option instead of my usual flat sandals.  I automatically started looking at athletic sneakers and then I noticed some casual sneakers and the memories came flooding back.  Why not channel a piece of my childhood and find a modern spin to an old classic?  And if you know me, I have very little discipline when it comes to shoes!  I ended up buying 7-8 pairs and only wearing 2-3!  Go figure.  😉

Vans were very popular with the skaters when I was growing up. One of my dear friends from elementary school only wears Vans to this day. So, I had to find a pair and this one won me over because of the burgundy hue.

My love affair with casual sneakers began with this pair from Adidas. I saw the pink and I was hooked! The girly girl in me got all giddy and all I could hope for was that my size was available (it was!).

High top Converse was another popular brand in my childhood. I had a bunch of different colors to mix things up. Today, I prefer the slip ons. 🙂

  • Skirts:  Skirts are on the list this year because they are always current. Whether you like traditional pencil skirts, asymmetrical mini skirts, or something in between, you’re sure to find the perfect one to elevate your personal style into fall

Plaid is trending big time this season and I am coveting this one from White House Black Market. I love the additional feature of the black faux leather trim detail.

Denim skirts are a perfect transition to fall. Switch up your top with longer sleeves, add a pair of peep toe boots, and you’ll look fall-tastic! 🙂 I have this one from Ann Taylor Factory.

Here’s another plaid skirt, but with a slightly longer length.  I like this skirt from Ann Taylor Factory because of the side buttons. The colors, including orange, make this piece the perfect fall pencil skirt.

  • Pumps: I’ve always admired traditional pumps from afar.  With my narrow heel, I was never able to wear them without my heel slipping out.  That was before my collaboration with Tortured Soles last year.  Their miracle anti-slip foot pads solved my heel issue allowing me to finally wear traditional pumps with confidence.  Check them out if you have this issue too or if you’re curious.  It is one of my favorite products (and I’m not being paid to say this).  Now that I can wear pumps, here are some of my faves going into this new season.

With animal print trending, I could not help but fall for this leopard print pair from Aldo.

Here’s another pair from Aldo. I love the mix of prints on this one. I can see wearing all black to let these heels command attention.

And one more from Aldo. I like this one because it looks like graffiti art to me. It’s very edgy and cool!

This one from Steve Madden is rocker chick hot! I love the spiked studs, but be cautious because they can be dangerous. 😉
