Lizzy’s Latest – Ghostober Fun!
SURPRISE! Lizzy’s Latest is back! 😊 I guess by now, y’all are used to my inconsistent postings. I apologize for that. 2022 has been a very unusual year for me and my family. Two health crises, both unexpected, one resolved (thank God) and the other still uncertain, have dominated my family’s life this year. We’ve acclimated to our new normal, but it can still be scary at times. Yet, our faith is strong. And with faith, comes so much hope.
In addition, I did a lot of traveling in the spring and summer. I wish I could report it was to Europe and/or some exotic destination. Nope…lol…instead, my travels had me exploring the Midwest of the United States. One wonderful outcome from my travels to the Midwest was a brief reunion with my dear friend, Andrea. I’ll have to share our story on the blog one day. 😊
In the meantime, it’s October and my East Coast BFF, Packy, and I had our annual Ghostober fun at Field of Screams Maryland.
New this year was the carnival games that included ax throwing! Packy and I have always wanted to try ax throwing and we were excited to get our chance that evening.
Ax throwing looks so easy, but it is quite challenging! We had six throws and both of us only managed to get 1 out of the 6 to stick. Though … totally beginner’s luck for me … my one lucky throw hit the second ring. I was thisclose to a bullseye! All my other shots did not stick and fell to the ground. Bummer! We’ll definitely plan a girls night out at an ax throwing place. It was so much fun!
Even more fun was the haunted trail through the woods…in the dark! Packy and I usually look for groups with guys (to feel protected!) and ask if we can join their group. Fortunately, we’ve never been rejected yet. 🙂
This group we attached ourselves to was hilarious! We had Ghostbuster and the Grim Reaper! The girl in the group is Jasmine and I believe the guy next to her is her boyfriend. The boyfriend was straight out of central casting as he was the most scared of all of us. He was jumping, screaming, and at one point pushing us backwards because he didn’t want to go forward to pass the psycho ghost girl who caught on that he was super scared. LOL!
At one point on that super long trail, the boyfriend pulled a bottle of liquor out of his pocket. I exclaimed the obvious, “Are you drinking?!”
The boyfriend said, “Hell yeah, I need liquid courage!”
The trail was never ending too! And when the chainsaws started up, we were bracing for something bad to happen because we couldn’t tell exactly where the sounds were coming from! That’s when the boyfriend started freaking out even more! He was sure he would be the first to die because “black guys always die first in scary/horror movies…” according to him. LOL!
The chainsaws did come for us eventually, but somehow we survived another haunted Ghostober. 😊
I LOVE this time of year!
I’m also so happy to be back. I appreciate your continued support even through my long absence. Some of you wrote me to check in and I was very happy to hear from you. I hope all of you have been well! Life can change in one moment, so cherish each day with your family and friends.
Have a great week! Lizzy’s Latest is featuring BCBGeneration Jalila evening sandals. There might be a review of these lovely heels in the next week or two. I’m still debating because I’d like to transition into fall. This is a summer look, but that’s ok, the weather has still been relatively warm here. For now, enjoy the pics!
Style with a Smile!
XoXo,
Lizzy

These lovely pictures are the epitome of the old adage – When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. They were taken at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, VA. As anyone who’s been there knows, the gardens are always packed and the fountain area where most of these photos were taken is always the most crowded. But on this gorgeous day, the park was nearly empty thanks to a worldwide pandemic (a huge lemon). So we got unfettered access to the most beautiful spot in the gardens and the most glorious pictures (lemonade) in Lizzy’s Latest history.
[Photographer’s note: Every tree, every burst of water and every flower (save for those imprinted on the fabric of Lizzy’s dress) are real. On the day the pics were taken, the park was closed to all except a few people who acquired the limited number of entry tickets that were offered online. We didn’t have such tickets, but by the grace of God, and one exceedingly sweet docent, we were allowed to enter.]

Hi Dad … thank you for more insight on this post! You are correct. Every time we have been to Lewis Ginter, it is ALWAYS packed with visitors. We were so lucky to have a virtually empty gardens and to be given admittance to the gardens despite not reserving the tickets online. That docent was very sweet and due to her kindness, we got these great pics. It took me quite some time to dwindle the pics down to what I published on the blog. You took close to 700 pics of this look on that blessed day. The pics came out great because your photography skills continue to improve. 🙂 So, thank you for that and of course, your patience and perseverance. The pics feel like I’m in a dream in a heavenly garden. 🙂

Great to see that you´re back, Lizzy! You look absolutely gorgeous as ever. 🙂 And glad to hear that you´ve been out travelling! The best life experiences often comes from travels and meetings with people. You should definitely check out Europe sometime if you haven´t done so already and, even if it´s a cliché, London and Paris are two of the best cities to visit in my experience. 😉 The haunted trail sounds lika a good mix of fun and scary! Kind of like the House of Horror in amusement parks. Of course, being in the woods at dark is always quite scary anyway! But you wouldn´t have to be scared if I was there, – I would´ve protected you and stood in the way of any danger. 😉
Wishing you a great Halloween!

Jack! Good to hear from you! 🙂 Thank you for your very generous words! Yes, meeting people on travel is great. I have one good friend I met about 12 years ago on a plane ride to Alabama. He was sitting next to me and we had a great convo on that short ride to Mobile. I have been to Europe! Many times, especially when I worked at US Airways for some years. I enjoyed London and Paris, but loved Rome just a little more because of my interest in Ancient Rome history. Of course, you would have protected me (and Packy!) in those dark woods. You are a courageous gentleman. 🙂 I will never forget the mud puddle. :). Happy Halloween!

Rome is definitely a city worth visiting! Or return to many times too. Italy overall is beautiful; nice people, good food culture and everything. I´ve been around to several countries in Europe myself and each city leaves you with new experiences and great impressions. Another tip is Barcelona! I have a friend who lives there and frequently invites me over. I like the mix of old and new architecture and there´s something to see around every corner! The beach never fails either. 😉
Ancient history speaking, the puddle story is actually said to have been done for the queen a long time ago, covering the puddle for her with a cloak. Later on it´s been done in a funny context in romantic movies, cartoons etc, when a gentleman shows his respect for a woman and chivalrous side. 🙂 But for you (and Packy!) I´d just lay flat on my back in it myself and let you catwalk across on me! You wouldn´t want your heels to get ruined with a gentleman around after all. 😉

Hi Jack! Nice to see you back here. I threw my coin into Trevi Fountain, so I know I will return to Rome one day. Hope you did too! I would love to have photo shoots in Italy. The backdrop of the ancient ruins in present day is so dramatic and beautiful. I agree with you…new experiences and talking to the locals leave great impressions. I have not been to Barcelona yet, only Madrid. It is on my list of places to go one day. Any place with a good beach rocks in my book. 🙂
Thank you for the history on the mud puddle origins. What a nice story. It’s good to know my stilettos (and Packy’s too) would be safe with you. Haha! Have a great new week!

Too funny, Jack! Thank you for the link! You know there is a woman at my church who is a greeter and when she sees me, she always exclaims, “Queen Elizabeth!” LOL!

I would love to try axe throwing, and I have no reservations that it would be harder than it looks. But how fun, and I love your looks,
