Maryland is such a beautiful state! To this day, we continue to discover amazing treasures such as the War Correspondents Memorial Arch at Gathland State Park in Western Maryland. I was so excited to have a fall photo shoot here because of the gorgeous backdrop. Part of the Appalachian Trail cuts through here and the area is steeped in Civil War history that I was not aware of until we found this hidden gem. I’m hoping to write more about its Civil War past in future blog posts. (more…)
First Corinthians, 13-13: So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
George E. Dixon was a handsome and wealthy young man working in Mobile, AL by the start of the Civil War in 1861. One day, a Southern bell named, Queenie Bennett, caught his eye. Dixon made his affections known to her and when Queenie drew her handkerchief across her lips and looked at him with desire, Dixon knew she was smitten with him too. The warmth of young love filled their hearts and the two began a courtship that would become the stuff of legends. (more…)
While photo shooting a few weekends ago, we encountered this skeleton emerging from a manhole. It was part of a Halloween display decorating the town of La Plata, MD. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would make a great prop poking tongue in cheek fun at all the shoe and feet enthusiasts out there. As a shoe blogger, you can imagine the types of messages I get from these admirers…perhaps, that will be a future blog post! 😉
In the meantime, enjoy this Halloween tale about an unsuspecting shoe blogger and a stalking manhole masher in Lizzy vs. the Manhole Masher!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We certainly did. My beautiful niece, Kristin, had the honor of playing the Virgin Mary in her school’s Passion play this year. It’s not the first time she’s had that honor and we are all so proud of her. Unfortunately, I have no picture to share. Due to the pandemic, it was just an in class production (no audience). I’ve featured stories about Kristin on the blog throughout the years and you can find one of those stories here. (more…)
Lizzy’s Latest is FINALLY back with a new post! It’s been a whirlwind of a month for me! Work has been crazy busy and I’ve been enjoying weekends with good friends. On one weekend in particular, my BFF, Packy, and I went skiing. It was my first time skiing and OH MY, what an experience! I will definitely detail that adventure in a future blog post. 🙂 (more…)
April 11, 1865: Washington DC socialite, Miss Clara Harris, was at the White House listening to President Abraham Lincoln address a mostly jubilant crowd. Just a few days before, Confederate General, Robert E. Lee, surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia to Union General, Ulysses S. Grant, at Appomattox Court House. This surrender marked the beginning of the end for the Confederacy and the long fought Civil War.
Winter has overstayed its welcome here in the DC area in my humble opinion. On the first day of Spring, we got hit with a snow storm that dumped several inches of snow. March has yet to see a 60-degree day here and I am just annoyed. Sigh! (more…)
Now that my shoe blog is monthly, the time in between posts sometimes feels like too long of an absence from all of you, at least to me. As such, I’ve launched a new segment on my blog called, “Shoespiration.” 🙂 Its intent is to fill the fashion void that lingers between my main blog posts. It’s a mini blog post; a sort of fashion fix if you will to get us through the month. 😉 (more…)
This photo shoot was taken at a historic courthouse in Port Tobacco, MD. It was mid-January and we were blessed with a relatively warm day. So, we took advantage of the weather and shot some nice nature shots here. (more…)
As a practicing Roman Catholic, one of my favorite weekly activities is attending Mass. I see it as visiting God in His house once a week. Going to church is also cathartic for me. Whatever struggles I may have encountered during the week dissipates as I participate in the Mass. By the end of Mass my spirit feels renewed, my mind is clear, and I leave with a calming sense of peace. (more…)
