Lizzy’s Latest – The Lenten Season 2021 Edition

Lizzy’s Latest is FINALLY back with a new post!  It’s been a whirlwind of a month for me!  Work has been crazy busy and I’ve been enjoying weekends with good friends.  On one weekend in particular, my BFF, Packy, and I went skiing.  It was my first time skiing and OH MY, what an experience!  I will definitely detail that adventure in a future blog post. 🙂

Also in the last month, the season of Lent began.  Lent is the 40-day period between Ash Wednesday and sundown on Holy Thursday.  During this time, Roman Catholics and some Protestant denominations focus on prayer, fasting, and sacrifice.  This symbolizes Jesus’ 40 days in the desert when Satan tempted Him to no success.  It is through this purification process that our souls are renewed and we look forward to celebrating Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

As a practicing Roman Catholic, my faith is very important to me, but I must confess I have been guilty of taking it for granted, particularly during Lent.  Sure, I abstain from meat on Fridays and I always give something up, but is there more that can be done?  The answer is a resounding, YES!

This year, in addition to giving something up, I’ve added something to Lent.  It is a daily Rosary mediation, prayers in devotion to the Virgin Mary.  However, this Rosary meditation is a little different from the traditional Rosary.  It is more in line with how the Rosary used to be prayed when it was first introduced by St. Dominic in the 13th century.  That is, it teaches a catechism (a lesson) to guide us to be better Christians and to help us create a deeper connection with God.

If you’re participating in Lent and/or are just curious, I highly recommend you check this out.  The meditation is less than half an hour, but you will get so much out of it.  Holy Family School of Faith is the organization that produces this podcast:

What I love about this Rosary meditation is getting to spend time every day with the Virgin Mary and also learning more about my Catholic faith.  The hosts are great at bringing the Bible teachings to life.  There is history, mystery, and intrigue!

One of my favorite episodes was from 2/13/21 titled, “The Power of Prayer and Sacrifice.”  The setting is Poland during WWII (y’all know how much I LOVE history):

I’ve been yearning for a deeper conversion and this Rosary meditation has truly satiated that desire.  Since January, my spirituality has been increasing and I feel a deeper inner peace in my life.  I’m no longer attached to any outcome.  Rather, I am letting God lead me as best as I can.

Have a wonderful week!  Lizzy’s Latest for this week is the Vince Camuto Fendels stiletto boots.  My review of these boots will post next week or the week after.  For now, enjoy the pictures.

Style with a Smile!

XoXo,
