Lizzy’s Latest – The Lenten Season 2021 Edition
Lizzyβs Latest is FINALLY back with a new post!Β Itβs been a whirlwind of a month for me!Β Work has been crazy busy and Iβve been enjoying weekends with good friends.Β On one weekend in particular, my BFF, Packy, and I went skiing.Β It was my first time skiing and OH MY, what an experience!Β I will definitely detail that adventure in a future blog post. πΒ
Also in the last month, the season of Lent began.Β Lent is the 40-day period between Ash Wednesday and sundown on Holy Thursday.Β During this time, Roman Catholics and some Protestant denominations focus on prayer, fasting, and sacrifice.Β This symbolizes Jesusβ 40 days in the desert when Satan tempted Him to no success.Β It is through this purification process that our souls are renewed and we look forward to celebrating Jesusβ Resurrection on Easter Sunday.Β Β Β
As a practicing Roman Catholic, my faith is very important to me, but I must confess I have been guilty of taking it for granted, particularly during Lent.Β Sure, I abstain from meat on Fridays and I always give something up, but is there more that can be done?Β The answer is a resounding, YES!
This year, in addition to giving something up, Iβve added something to Lent.Β It is a daily Rosary mediation, prayers in devotion to the Virgin Mary.Β However, this Rosary meditation is a little different from the traditional Rosary.Β It is more in line with how the Rosary used to be prayed when it was first introduced by St. Dominic in the 13th century.Β That is, it teaches a catechism (a lesson) to guide us to be better Christians and to help us create a deeper connection with God.Β
If youβre participating in Lent and/or are just curious, I highly recommend you check this out.Β The meditation is less than half an hour, but you will get so much out of it.Β Holy Family School of Faith is the organization that produces this podcast:
https://www.schooloffaith.com/daily-rosary-meditations
What I love about this Rosary meditation is getting to spend time every day with the Virgin Mary and also learning more about my Catholic faith.Β The hosts are great at bringing the Bible teachings to life.Β There is history, mystery, and intrigue!
One of my favorite episodes was from 2/13/21 titled, βThe Power of Prayer and Sacrifice.βΒ The setting is Poland during WWII (yβall know how much I LOVE history):
https://www.schooloffaith.com/rosary-archive/the-power-of-prayer-and-sacrifice
Iβve been yearning for a deeper conversion and this Rosary meditation has truly satiated that desire.Β Since January, my spirituality has been increasing and I feel a deeper inner peace in my life.Β Iβm no longer attached to any outcome.Β Rather, I am letting God lead me as best as I can.
Have a wonderful week!Β Lizzyβs Latest for this week is the Vince Camuto Fendels stiletto boots.Β My review of these boots will post next week or the week after.Β For now, enjoy the pictures.Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β
Style with a Smile!Β

Hi Mike! Yes! I’m feeling the time change today after staying up late last night to finish this post. π Thank you for your beautiful comments. I always smile when I read your words. π You are a kind soul! The ski trip was a lot of fun…just challenging at times…especially when I would make myself fall when I started skiing too fast down the mountain. Lol! Then, I’d be stuck in the snow, unable to pull myself up…haha…but I don’t want to give away too much of the story before I write it. Happy March, my friend! Talk soon! π

Adorable as always Lizzy! I must say I’m intrigued by this rosary you’re saying. I’m not a Catholic, but I am on a journey to get more in touch with Jesus more. Is there something that clicked for you earlier this year to bring you to this place? Just curious!

Hi Tori! Thank you for your compliment and comments. Well, like you, I’ve always longed for that deeper relationship with Jesus, but I never went beyond going to weekly Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, and daily prayer. Then, someone came into my life and gifted me with the link to this rosary. I checked it out and have been listening to it everyday ever since. Partly because I committed to pray for this person, but mostly because I genuinely enjoy listening to it. The host is great at making stories come to life and all the while teaching us God’s words. Sometimes, I will even do further research because the lesson is that compelling! You don’t have to be Catholic to check it out. All you need is a curiosity and yearning to be closer to Jesus. I highly recommend you check it out. It sounds like something you might like. And I couldn’t have timed this post any better! The topic for today is, “Five Reasons to Pray the Rosary” and I don’t believe in coincidences. π And you don’t always have to agree with the host’s interpretation. There have been some podcasts when I just didn’t agree with all he was saying, but I am always open to hearing another person’s perspective. Hope this helps and I hope you are well! π

Ah the Rosary meditation sounds excellent and very rewarding. I like to meditate but started a new job so have been too busy to do so. Always good to be grateful and sacrifice. This looks is super fun for spring and could easily be work to work. Love it!

I continued working while I went through chemotherapy. Which meant commuting by rail 90 minutes each way, to and from my place of employment. Anyone who has been through chemo knows that the side effects are very uncomfortable, and that at times they flare up to unbearable. And that those flare ups can happen regardless of where oneβs at. So I came up with a few techniques, like reading the funny papers and doing crossword puzzles, to keep my mind off physical discomfort when it flared up during a commute.
But these techniques werenβt much good for when I was standing on a crowded train platform, or whenever the discomfort was truly intense. For those situations I kept a rosary ring in my pocket. So when all else failed, Iβd discreetly slip the ring on my finger, and press my thumb to each bead while silently praying the rosary. Iβd just kept going until the pain, panic and/or commute was finished.
I got the idea for using the rosary when all else fails from a WWII movie, A Bridge too Far, that I saw as a kid. Thereβs a scene in it where a US Army officer (played by the great Robert Redford) must lead his men as they paddle across a river under intense enemy fire. He overcomes his fear by repeating, over and over, the only prayer he knows, the first line of the Hail Mary, which is the primary prayer of the rosary.

I remember that time, Dad, and I’m glad you survived your cancer. It was a very scary and uncertain time for our family. I thank God for the outcome as that is not the case with so many other families. I also remember you telling me about the rosary ring. I had never heard of a rosary ring, so I found it interesting. And I was also glad you turned to faith to get you through this ordeal. The rosary works miracles if one has the gift of faith. π

First..I just love the boots and the entire outfit, Lizzy. How could I not?? You have such beautiful style.
Second, how interesting that you talk about Lent. We just finished watching the movie Fatima, and it might be one that you’d enjoy. I wasn’t familiar with the story before watching it, but it was done very well.

You are soooo sweet, Jodie! Thank you! I’m so glad you love the boots … but, of course you would! You are a fellow shoe-lover like me. π Our Lady of Fatima is a beautiful story! The Virgin Mary appearing to those three little kids and giving them messages. I will have to check out that movie. I haven’t seen it yet, but Lent is a perfect time for movies like Fatima. Thank you for the recommendation! Hope you’re having a great week!

Thank you, Kathrine! You’re so welcome! I think you will really like this meditation. I hope you do check it out. I can’t believe Lent is almost over as well. Tomorrow is the Solemnity of St. Joseph. So, because his day is on a Friday this year, we don’t have to abstain from meat tomorrow. Interesting tidbit I learned today. Hope you have a great weekend!

This look is lovely! The skirt is adorable, and the navy boots make a beautiful statement going perfectly with the color palette of the outfit.
We often try to control so many things that we really canβt and should give them up to Jesus instead. Sometimes giving up really means giving up on the inside and letting God take care of these problems according to His will. Have a blessed Easter!

Hi Joanna! Thank you for your lovely compliments.
I agree and relate to your words about trying to control so many things. All those times when I would force my will, the outcome was never good. God’s will has always been better in my life. I realize when one thing doesn’t work out, it’s because God has something better on the horizon. And with that, my heart remains full of joy and hope. Happy Easter to you too, my friend. I hope you are well! So great hearing from you!
