Dr. Mudd House Museum – Baptism, Babies, and Blessings

It is rare to have my whole family together all at once.  So, imagine my excitement and anticipation as I made my drive to my brother, Michael’s, house in South Carolina for my Godson’s baptism.  My sister and parents had arrived the afternoon before and were already settled.

Upon arriving, my sister, Jeanette, revealed to me that my niece, Kristin, was waiting for me.  We walked to the playroom and opened the door.  “Look who’s here” Jeanette spoke to Kristin.  Kristin turned and the look of surprise and happiness that spread across her face was priceless.  She jumped up and yelled, “Aunt Lizzy!”  Then, ran and jumped into my arms.  That moment was pure unconditional love.  I picked her up, hugged her, and spun her around to both our delight.

That afternoon, I took Kristin to Chuck E. Cheese’s to play games.  We had a lot of fun and afterwards, she asked me a question:  “Aunt Lizzy, are you a kid or a grown up?”

The question made me laugh.  Clearly, I have some degree of Peter Pan Syndrome (fear of growing up) and my 5-year old niece had the cognizance to detect my kid-at-heart personality.  We agreed I am a grown up, but still have fun like a kid.  🙂

When we got home, my Godson, Andrew, was running around naked save for his Under Armour boxers.  I asked him why he was running around naked and he would not answer.  The only way I was able to get him to put on some clothes was with a bribe!  No Baskin-Robbins if you don’t put on clothes!

I asked my sister-in-law, Shannon, about Andrew’s latest phase.  She said it started a month ago after watching Under Armour commercials of his favorite sports heroes:  Carolina Panther’s Quarterback, Cam Newton and Golden State Warriors basketball player, Stephen Curry.  According to 7-year old, Andrew, wearing only underwear meant you were a man.  Sigh!

Playing with two rambunctious kids wore me out.  Joshua’s baptism was a welcome reprieve the next day.  However, we did have a mini-crisis to quell before the baptism.  When we got to church, my brother, Michael, pulled Josh out of his car seat only to find Josh had either had a big blow out or sat on something that stained his white pants!  It was the latter, thank goodness!  A mini freak-out ensued as we tried to resolve the situation.  I suggested baby wipes when we got to our pew.  Shannon held Josh while Andrew and I scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed.  Surprisingly, we got most of it out.  Crisis averted and the baptism went forward beautifully.

I left the next morning around the time the kids were leaving for school and daycare.  Andrew, curious, asked, “Is Rick still alive?”  I think we have a budding Walking Dead fan in the making.  😉

Have a wonderful week!

Lizzy’s Latest for this week is the Vince Camuto Solter Booties.  I will give my review of these shoes on Wednesday.  For now, enjoy the pictures!  🙂
