Hollywood Cemetery – Chasing Lizzy

The location for my first blog post was Richmond, VA.  Richmond has been my favorite city to visit ever since I became interested in Civil War history.  With lots to see and do there, it felt right to combine my love of shoes with my love of history.

I chose an interesting locale:  Hollywood Cemetery.  The first time I visited Hollywood, I was consumed by the beauty of it.  Located along the James River, it is an architectural masterpiece.   It is more than just a place to pay respect to those who have passed.  It is a garden cemetery where you can find runners, painters, dog walkers, tourists and even people enjoying lunch.  So, why not add a shoe blogger to the mix?!

My photographer (thanks, Dad!) and I had no idea what to expect!  I’ve never modeled and my dad is not a professional photographer.  We decided we would just take lots of pictures and maybe a handful would be blog worthy.

The photo shoot (if you can call it that!) for my first outfit felt awkward and uncertain.  The real models make it look so easy!  I was uncertain about how to pose and how to look.  My dad, on the other hand, was unsure about camera settings.  The good thing was no one was around as my dad and I tried to figure everything out.  The “bad” thing was eventually people came making me feel a little awkward in my heels and dress while everyone else was in sneakers and shorts.

One nice woman, named Julie, asked if my dad and I wanted our picture taken together.  I explained to her that I was taking pictures for a shoe blog and she said she had friends who could be interested in my blog.  She asked for my website and we talked a little bit more.  I am very thankful for meeting her and after talking to her, my confidence grew.  So, the next time someone came by looking curious, I just smiled and said 2 words:  “Shoe blog!”

The heels are from Style&co, a private label owned by Macy’s.  I bought them last summer and they are no longer available.  However, I did find them on Amazon.

Here is something similar

The dress is from Express, but it looks like it sold out this weekend.  Express has other similar dress styles you can peruse.

The belt is from The Limited (I purchased many years ago).

The pictures that follow are actually from my third wardrobe change.  We only had time to photograph 4 outfits.  So, I will post the other three outfits in the coming weeks.    🙂
