George Washington Birthplace National Monument – Two for the Road: San Diego Snags Savannah

In less than two weeks, my BFF, Tammy, and I will be on our way to Savannah, GA!  Hard to believe, but Tammy has never been to the East Coast or the South.  Her biggest anxiety is the thought of mosquitoes eating her alive because she is very prone to getting bit.  We always joke she has sweet blood!  😉  I told her not to worry because I will bring the bug spray.  🙂

Although, the majority of our time will be spent in Savannah, we are taking a day trip to Charleston, SC.  We are visiting a historic plantation with a petting zoo.  Tammy loves animals and I love history and this plantation merges our two passions.

Being an indoors type of gal, I asked Tammy if I could wear flip-flops to the petting zoo.  She recommended I wear sneakers.  Well, the only pair of sneakers I own are the ones I keep at work for when I walk on the treadmill.  I can’t use those!  I have to go shopping!

The shoe addict in me scoured all the department stores and I ended up purchasing 6 pairs of kicks.  Perhaps I went a little overboard, but in my mind, I need the variety so that I have plenty of options to choose from once I decide on what I am going to wear!  AND…it’s not just for the petting zoo…we are also visiting a wildlife preserve in Savannah.  🙂

I have to admit, I am a little concerned about the animals we will encounter and how I will react.  I’ve seen enough episodes of When Animals Attack to know that if we are being chased, I just need to run faster than Tammy!  😉  Ha!  🙂

This trip is a long time coming because it is our first trip together.  When we were little girls, we used to daydream about all the places we would go when we grew up.  That never happened because I moved away.  It was devastating for me because I felt like I was losing my best friend and there was nothing I could do about it.  Eventually, time heals the pain of distance, but neither time nor distance could ever break the bonds of a deep and enduring friendship.

Of course we stayed in touch when we could, but despite our best efforts, our dreams became childhood memories that were never forgotten yet never pursued.  We grew up and with every passing year, it just never happened due to nothing in particular, but the monotony of life and living on opposite coasts.  Sometimes, however, it is cathartic to run away from reality and spend it with your best friend.  This is one of those times.  🙂

Have a wonderful week.  🙂

Lizzy’s Latest for this week is the Steve Madden Sassey Two-Piece Fringe sandals.  I will give my review of these heels on Wednesday.  For now enjoy the pictures!  🙂
