Port Tobacco, Maryland – Thomas Stone House – Kindness and Thanksgiving

1-20161008_114846-final

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is next week!  I’ve been in a festive mood since the beginning of November.  I was at the mall and Hallmark was having a special on Christmas cards.  I could not help myself, I purchased two boxes of cards knowing I would probably only need one. (more…)

The Gettysburg National Military Park is one of my favorite Civil War battlefields to explore.  It was in this area that the Battle of Gettysburg was fought over a 3-day period in July of 1863.  For this photo shoot, we headed to the Pennsylvania State Memorial located at Cemetery Ridge, the primary defensive position of the Union Army. About one year ago, I published a post called “Confessions of a New Blogger.”  In it, I described my journey as a first time blogger and the realization that maintaining a weekly blog would be unsustainable given my other passions and desire to spend time with family and friends. (more…)

Back in the Fall, I was dazzled by the assortment of boots and booties in the market.  I wanted to buy every shoe that caught my eye. Over the years, I have learned to control my sometimes impetuous shopping personality.  So each season, I make a list of all the shoes I “have to have” and then give myself a few days or more, if I’m anticipating a sale, to think about my shopping list.  Occasionally, I realize I have similar shoes or the “what was I thinking” moment hits me before buying the shoes.  Of course, I’m not always consistent with this discipline.  When it comes to my heel addiction, theory is always better than practice.  😉  (more…)

The religious season of Lent for Roman Catholics is the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday.  It symbolizes the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert as Satan unsuccessfully tempted Him to forsake God.  It is a beautiful story of humility and discipline.  It is an encouraging story of the perseverance of good when confronted with evil.  It is why Lent is a time of abstinence, repentance, and introspection. As a practicing Roman Catholic, one of my favorite weekly activities is attending Mass.  I see it as visiting God in His house once a week.  Going to church is also cathartic for me.  Whatever struggles I may have encountered during the week dissipates as I participate in the Mass.  By the end of Mass my spirit feels renewed, my mind is clear, and I leave with a calming sense of peace. 2016 started off with a bang!  Rather than sleeping in on the first day of the new year, we got up early for this photo shoot.  To preserve as much daylight as possible, we didn’t venture too far out of the neighborhood.  Instead we drove to my dad’s office in Alexandria, VA.  Founded in 1749, the city has been a prominent witness of history since its founding.  I highly recommend a walking tour of Alexandria if you’re ever in the area.     (more…)

The majority of people I interact with on this blog are quite genuine and supportive.  Sometimes, though, motives can be deceiving and sometimes, things aren’t always as they seem.  A few weeks ago, someone named Nan Goldin contacted me.
