On the Banks of the Potomac – Lizzy’s Latest: Up in Lights
One concept I would love to learn more about is affiliate marketing for bloggers. I believe this is an important tool in promoting my brand and reaching new audiences. My blogger friend, Eccentric Owl, has a great post on affiliate marketing and I wanted to share her post with you. For now, because of lack of time, I rely on word of mouth advertising from family and friends. I also post on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook.
Instagram, in particular, is a great marketing channel. I have found new followers from all over the world by simply adding hashtags to my posts. In addition, stores like Macy’s and White House Black Market encourage users to tag pictures with their hashtags to be considered for advertising campaigns. I always participate in these. Last summer, I was delighted to see some of my blog shots online at Macy’s and White House Black Market. I couldn’t believe it at first, but it was real and that’s when I recognized I could be on the verge of something wonderful. It encouraged me to persevere.
Then, one afternoon in mid-March, I received an unexpected surprise. Macy’s selected one of my blog pics for its #MacysLove Spring campaign. Shock set in when I realized my image was streaming on a Times Square billboard in New York City!!!
I began gasping OMGosh! OMGosh!! OMGosh!!! Anna and Chellie, my work BFFs, looked at each other perplexed then looked at me to explain. I handed my phone to Anna and said, “LOOK! it’s ME on a Times Square billboard!”
Anna screamed, “No way! Is it real? How did this happen?”
I answered, Anna screamed in excitement, and began jumping saying, “That’s soooo awesome! Look, Chellie, Lizzy’s on a Times Square billboard!”
Chellie took the phone next and exclaimed, “Damn, girl, this is great! I knew you could do it!” Then, she peered down at me from her round rimmed glasses and asked in her most serious tone: “Are you gettin’ paid?!” Laughter ensued.
It was a surreal moment for me. I never would have ever imagined seeing my image on a Times Square billboard! I was brimming with joy and excitement while also acknowledging the love and support I have received from family, friends, and all my new followers. I am so humbled by this experience.
I consider this moment my greatest achievement in blogging thus far and I have to thank my wonderful dad for helping me reach this milestone. I don’t think there is a photographer as patient as my dad. My best guy friend, William, texted me his congratulations and commented about how my dad is a greater man than him. William added, “I would take one picture and tell you it’s time to go.” 😉
Have a wonderful week. 🙂
Lizzy’s Latest for this week is the Steve Madden Sambaa Lace-Up pumps. I will give my review of these pumps on Wednesday. For now enjoy the pictures! 🙂

When we took the pictures near the water, we heard gun shots. They were so loud and so distant that it seemed they came from the other side of the river. Soon after some water fowl came flying in. It was then that it was apparent those gun shots weren’t just random. These birds must have been what they were aiming at. The lucky ones anyway.

I almost forgot about that moment, Dad. Thank you for remembering. 🙂 It turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon once the sun came out.
