Lizzy’s Latest: Sphinx Vogue Collaboration and Shoespiration: Michael Kors Elana Platform Sandals
What a treat this week!Β Lizzyβs Latest has a special two part post featuring a new fashion collaboration with Sphinx Vogue and a Shoespiration segment featuring the Michael Kors Elana platform sandals.
Back in July, Jessica from Sphinx Vogue reached out to me.Β She explained the company is a new fashion brand for women of distinction.Β Apparently, the marketing team at Sphinx Vogue likes my style and my photos and as such, would like me to be a Sphinx Vogue model.
I was flattered and asked for more information.Β Jessica explained that they would let me select 3 pieces of jewelry or 1 swimwear and 1 jewelry in exchange for photos of me wearing the products.Β I would only have to pay for the shipping.Β I took a quick glance at their website and several jewelry pieces caught my eye.Β So, I happily agreed to the collaboration.Β Jessica sent me a special code to use for my purchase and I found my 3 pieces that night.Β
The products shipped from China (surprise, surprise!) and was slow to get here, but I was ok with that because I didnβt have an outfit and heels in mind yet.Β About 2 months later, the package arrived.Β Though, I thought it peculiar that the packaging was a bubble wrap envelope considering jewelry is delicate.Β Unfortunately, one of the bracelets was damaged during shipping, but fortunately, not broken.Β
I chose 2 bracelets, here and here, and one necklace, here.Β All pieces in gold because I prefer gold over silver.Β Being a girly-girl, I love sparkly pieces.Β πΒ I also have a thing for circles, so the sun necklace grabbed my attention.Β
My most favorite piece is the tree of life bracelet. Isnβt it sooo pretty?! It reminds me of the book, βA Tree Grows in Brooklynβ by Betty Smith. Itβs a coming of age story about a little Irish girl and her family growing up in a poor section of Brooklyn, NY at the turn of the 20th century.
I was about that little girlβs age when my dad introduced me to the book. However, I was more interested in my favorite boy band and hanging with my Forever BFF, Tammy, than I was in reading this book. Yet, Dad persisted and required that I read the book. UGH!!! So, I did, I really did! And then, Dad quizzed me and apparently, according to him, I failed the quiz. So, to this day, he thinks I never actually read the book! But, I SWEAR, I did!!! It was required reading for all of us kids and according to Dad, my brother, Michael, and sister, Jeanette, passed the quiz. Sigh!!! We eventually watched the movie too at one point and I knew the story because I read the book. Do you believe me now, Dad?! Haha!!! Iβm certain Dad will give his thoughts on this in the comments section.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this collaboration and wearing the jewelry. They are very pretty pieces, but for the amount of money they are priced at (over $100 each!), I would hope their packaging will improve. If I had to pay for these pieces, I would have been very upset to receive a damaged bracelet, but since I was gifted the jewelry, I canβt complain too much.
I decided to pair the jewelry with a black outfit and Michael Kors Elana platform sandals. It was love at first sight with these sandals. Black with gold trim is so chic to me! The heels are high at approximately 4.25 inches, but the 1.25 inch platform makes them quite comfortable to walk in for an extended period of time. I felt so tall in these sandals! I knew they would look perfect with a slinky black top, black shorts, and my Sphinx Vogue jewelry. This look gave me an aura of sexiness and confidence! I felt so beautiful in this heel/outfit combo.
So much so, I made Dad (my photographer) take a million photos of this look. We had our photo shoot at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. We were there last spring (2019) and I still have a heel/outfit combo Iβve yet to feature from that spring shoot. This time around, with the pandemic, we werenβt aware we had to purchase tickets online.
Luckily, the place was virtually empty and they allowed us admission into the gardens. Our luck continued inside the gardens because we pretty much had the place to ourselves save for a handful of other visitors. We got great pictures for this outfit and one other outfit that I will most likely feature next spring.
In the meantime, have a great week and enjoy the pictures! Iβm working on a special Haunted History post for Halloween. Yβall know how much I love the paranormal and spooky stories for the month of Ghostober! You can check out my previous Haunted History posts about the Legend of Moll Dyer here, the (Edgar Allen) Poe Toaster here, and my paranormal encounter with the fierce Iron Brigade here. Happy reading! π

It is sad when products come in the mail damaged. I’m surprised they didn’t replace it the damaged piece.
As for that book, now you should see the movie. It was SO well done, and I bet you’ll love it.
BTW, you look absolutely stunning Lizzy,

It is, Jodie! Well, I didn’t report the damage to Sphinx Vogue. The diamond bracelet had a bend in it on the inside cuff, so it’s not noticeable in the pictures. I just had to be careful not to bend it too much for fear it could just break. So, you’re familiar with “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.” That’s great! I’m sure my dad will be happy to know that. I think I may re-read the book over the holidays when I have time off. Then, we can watch the movie again. Thank you, Jodie…glad you like the look! π

When I saw the proofs from this photoset, I thought for sure we’d have to redo the whole thing in order to properly display the items from Sphinx Vogue. But you said that wouldn’t be necessary, and sure enough, you were right. These pictures look great and they do a fine job of showing off the jewelry.
You proved me wrong about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn too. Prior to now, I never believed you gave it anymore than a cursory reading. It’s true I thought so because you couldn’t pass my quiz. But then after you sister read it. She brought up plot details that I had no recollection of. So I figured maybe you too, like me, just couldn’t recall some of the story in spite of having read it. Still it seemed the story hadn’t left an emotional mark on you like it did for myself and your siblings. However, now I see that perhaps it has. Your finding that the bracelet pictured here reminds you of the book, tells me the story may have indeed touched your heart. Which makes me all the more happy that I was the one taking the pictures of you displaying it. A Tree Grows of Brooklyn is a coming of age story of an impoverished girl, but it’s also a bittersweet story of the amazing love shared by her and her father.

Yes, as soon as I found those shots where the jewelry had clear focus on the details, I knew we would be ok. I already knew in my head how I would crop those pictures to get an even closer look at the jewelry pieces. However, I am grateful for your concerns because as my photographer, your reputation is on the line too, Dad! Haha!
Yes, of course, I read the book and it has some great themes in there about human imperfection, the hardships of life, forgiveness, redemption, the strength of faith and perseverance as a guide through life’s darkness, but most importantly the unconditional love among family, particularly between Francie and her father. He was arguably, a louse of a father and husband, no doubt, but he had a good heart and good intentions; just not very successful at executing. All these themes transcend time and what makes this book timely, relatable, and a great read. Perhaps, I will re-read this book as an adult now and have a better appreciation for it. π And, perhaps, I will finally pass that quiz of yours, Dad! π

Thank you so much, Jill! I do tend to lean towards delicate jewelry because I don’t wear that much jewelry in general. So, having smaller pieces makes me feel like I’m wearing something pretty without feeling overwhelmed with too many things on me, if that makes sense! π
