Lizzy’s Latest – Elizabeth Who?!

I confess!  I am a bit high maintenance.  Though many who know me would argue I am VERY high maintenance.  According to my Forever BFF, Tammy:

“Oh brother…you are super high maintenance…but you are real pretty and positive and bubbly so it comes off as charming.”

I guess that makes me tolerable?  😉

My best guy friend, William, added:

“Very high, but not as high as when we were in college.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

So, according to William, I am becoming less high maintenance with time…YAY! 😊

It seems the consensus among my family and friends is that I am most high maintenance about my food restrictions (no cheese, no cinnamon, no sushi, no salad, no coffee, etc…) and the amount of time it takes me to get ready in the morning.

I remember some years ago when I visited my childhood friends in San Diego for a Kindergarten reunion, Tammy came to stay with me at the hotel to catch up.  As I got ready the first morning, she was shocked that it took me so long. So, the next morning she decided to observe my morning routine as she enjoyed a bag of chips and some overdue girl talk.  And yes, it really did take me a while to get ready.

Fast forward to a few weekends ago when I had dinner with my parents.  Dad told me about the latest autobiography he was reading, Pieces of my Heart, by Robert Wagner.  He said there was an interesting part that would resonate with me and he wanted to read the excerpt to me and Mom.

Dad began, “With Elizabeth…” and I quickly cut him off!

I sassed him with, “Why are you putting MY name in this?  Who is the real woman?!”

Dad had a mischievous smile and asked that I allow him to finish the quote.

“Fine,” I said defensively.

“With Elizabeth, there [is] a great deal of maintenance. This is not a woman who gets up in the morning and fixes breakfast. By the time she comes downstairs for breakfast, it’s time for dinner. She’s not floating in the pool with you on a lazy Sunday afternoon, handing magazines back and forth. Elizabeth’s life is built completely around Elizabeth [.]”

“That’s not ME!!!” I exclaimed!  “It doesn’t take me until dinnertime to get ready!!!”

Mom and Dad laughed and Mom added, “It does sound a little like you…”

I retorted, “Uh, maybe an EXTREME version of me!”

I then inquired about the real woman Robert Wagner was referring to because clearly Dad added my name for theatrics!

Dad paused for a moment reveling in this “mystery” before revealing that Robert Wagner had written that bit about the great Elizabeth Taylor!  Yet, Dad felt it could have been written about me too.

I beg to differ!  To my defense, it only takes me about two hours to get ready in the morning.  I love the pool, just not on Sundays when I’m washing my hair (that’s a whole other story!).  And my life is not built completely around me, at least I don’t think…

Interestingly, my mom’s favorite actress growing up was Elizabeth Taylor.  In fact, Mom named me after her!  I find it quite ironic that I exhibit some of my namesake’s high maintenance tendencies, but of course, to a lesser extreme.  😉

If you know me, please comment and tell me your thoughts!  For the rest of you, can you relate?

This week, Lizzy’s Latest Shoespiration segment is featuring the Steven by Steve Madden Rees sandals.  I love these heels!  They are high at approximately 4.25 inches, but surprisingly comfortable!  I purchased them a while ago, so they are very hard to find now.  You can find them here, but quantity is limited.  A quick internet search may yield you some additional results.  I paired them with black shorts and an orange cut-out shoulder top.  I completed the look with a cute anklet.  This heel outfit/combo will be the last of my summer posts for this year.  Fall style is finally on the horizon at Lizzy’s Latest!  😊

Have a wonderful week!

Style with a Smile!

XoXo,

Lizzy
