Sometimes friendship is a destiny waiting to happen. One of the best gifts of starting my blog is connecting with my followers. One of my first followers is a guy named Mike. Mike has a great page filled with nature, sunsets/sunrises, and history. It’s a perfect trifecta of interests.
One day in those early days of my blog, I visited Mike’s page to catch up on his posts. I was surprised to see a picture of him in a hospital bed. Concerned, I clicked on the picture and read his post. He was getting prepped to have open heart surgery! On top of that, he would most likely need a heart transplant in the near future. I was shocked! Mike asked for prayers and left his address and phone number for anyone wanting to send him cards and/or contact him. I wished him well and kept him in my prayers.
Yet, my concern grew and I wanted to do more. So, I went to Hallmark and found a card. I wrote a special note in that card and mailed it to him. Some days later, I got a text from Mike thanking me for my card. And from that moment on, we became forever friends. 😊
Mike and I always talked about meeting, but the opportunity never presented itself. However last year while I was in Savannah with my parents on vacation, Mike offered to drive to Savannah and meet me there. I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, he had to cancel because his mom got sick.
We had another opportunity this September when I was in NC visiting my brother and his family. Mike was available the week I was there and we planned to meet up mid-week. Unbeknownst to me, Mike traveled two hours for our get together! I felt so guilty being 15 minutes late and having to drive only 10 minutes! Sigh…
I texted him as soon as I parked and went to go find him. Mike was sitting outside and looking at his phone. He looked up and we smiled at each other. We finally met after all these years. This is Mike:
Mike, the kindest gentleman, treated me to dinner and interestingly, we ordered the same grilled salmon dish. We had a great conversation and I learned his heart is now at 30% which puts him off the transplant list. His heart goal is 50% and I have no doubt he’s on his way to achieving that milestone.
After dinner, Mike was so sweet and got us ice cream too. 😊 While we were enjoying the ice cream, my niece, Kristin, video-called me to make sure I was ok and not being kidnapped as my brother had joked. Haha!!! Mike and Kristin met on the phone and then I told her I’d be home soon and thanked her for checking in on me.
It was a beautiful evening with my forever friend, Mike. I was so grateful he took the time to come meet me. He is one of the kindest persons I’ve come to know. He’s so genuine and he’s always sending me history links, which I love! I feel like everyone should have a Mike in their life. Mike, when you read this, know that you are part of my inner circle of friends and I appreciate you and your support of my blog. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend! 🙂
Of course, I also have to tell you about these boots! They are Vince Camuto and I like to call these my weekend booties. They are comfy for running errands, going to church, and hanging out with friends and family.
The suede heels are approximately 3 inches. My only criticism is that I wish the heels were a little higher. Though, they might be perfect for you, if you prefer the lower heel. What I love about these booties are the foldover cuff and the rich fall color.
I kept the look casual chic with button up jeans (my favorite type of jeans!) and a sexy off-the-shoulder sweater in a hue that is so perfect for fall! You could also wear the boots with skirts and leggings. These boots are that versatile! What do you think?

When you started Lizzy’s Latest, I’ll bet you never expected that it to lead to your making a great new friend like Michael. He’s not just a fan, but a gentleman to boot. So glad you got to meet face-to-face.
It’s interesting that a story of meeting with a new friend is paired with this photoshoot. That’s because some old friends/acquaintances, a very nice couple that we’ve known for years from our church, unexpectedly came upon us when we were taking it. It was a treat to chat with them and tell them about the blog.
Moments like these are what make all the hard work really pay off.
When I started this blog, I had no idea what to expect or what I was truly getting myself into! Now, I am connected to so many people all over the world and some of these people have become good friends, like Mike. I am so happy we got to meet too! It’s one of my 2020 highlights. Thanks, Dad! And yes…it was great seeing our old church friends and their cute dog! That meeting was so random, but so lovely! 🙂
