Lizzy’s Latest – Paranormal Pacifier
The paranormal has always intrigued me and my dad. Although, we don’t participate in any occult practices, we love wandering around haunted places, taking ghost tours, and exploring graveyards and cemeteries to indulge our taphophile hearts.
In fact, we’ve had plenty of photo shoots at cemeteries and graveyards. Lizzy’s Latest very first photo shoot was at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Check it out here. Most times, photo shooting at a cemetery or graveyard is beautiful and serene, but every so often, we experience unexplained events like my encounter with the Iron Brigade at Antietam National Cemetery in Sharpsburg, MD. These experiences, on the surface, appear to be random happenstance, but then again, I don’t believe in coincidences. Do you?
Case in point, while photo shooting these gorgeous Kenneth Cole New York Barlow shooties at St. Ignatius church at Chapel Point in Port Tobacco, MD, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It was a cool November afternoon and as we were seeking a scenic spot in the graveyard, this headstone caught our attention:
Baby Connie’s grave is located on a hill with a beautiful and dramatic view.
I drew my hands to my heart as Dad read the inscription, “Baby Connie, August to November 1963.” It always makes me sad to see a baby’s headstone. My heart broke for baby Connie while Dad contemplated the fragility of life because 1963 is his birth year. We said a little prayer for Connie and gave her some words of comfort before we turned our attention back to photo shooting.
After some time, we moved from the graveyard to a little garden area behind the church. I had changed into flats for the walk and when we got to the garden area, I sat on an empty bench and swapped my flats for heels again. I left the flats on the bench. We proceeded to take pictures on another bench and halfway through, I realized we had left some of our equipment at the graveyard. So, Dad went back to retrieve our stuff while I remained in the garden area relaxing.
When Dad returned, his gaze immediately went to the bench where my flats were resting. I didn’t think much of it until he asked me if anyone had come by with a baby. I shook my head and said, “No, why?” Dad responded, “Look!”
I sat in the middle while changing shoes. I am certain I would have noticed this pacifier next to me had it been there while I was sitting on the bench. It is very visible!
I turned my head to the bench and was shocked to see an antique white pacifier that was not there before! I jumped up from the other bench and we both examined the pacifier without touching it. Could it be baby Connie?! Or perhaps, a nefarious demonic entity posing as an innocent child?! We did not engage and we’ll never know for sure, but what an eerie experience! It definitely changed the atmosphere for the rest of the shoot there. Don’t worry, we did not stay too much longer after that spooky encounter with the paranormal pacifier!
We have watched enough paranormal shows to know we shouldn’t touch “haunted” objects lest we open ourselves up to attachments! I wonder what time period this pacifier is from?

First, I’m glad to see that you change into flats to walk around places Lizzy.
But that pacifier was a tad creepy!! I wouldn’t have hung around there long either.

I do not like scary movies at all so I don’t want to guess where that pacifier came from. Lol! Dying over your lace up heels! The color is stunning and love them paired with these shorts. Amazing look Lizzy!

Although the title, Paranormal Pacifier, sounds comical, the actual event was anything but. We shot a series of photos very close to Baby Connie’s headstone because there was a fine, unobstructed view of a valley from that point. That the headstone was there was incidental and hardly noticed. It wasn’t until later in a garden many yards way, we’re taking photos and out of nowhere an old pacifier shows up in a spot where none had been before, that our earlier proximity to the child’s gravesite took significance. How else to explain the appearance of the pacifier. There weren’t any other people around and neither of us (Lizzy and myself) had any reason to have brought a pacifier to the photoshoot.
I accept the possibility of a supernatural occurrence explaining the appearance of the pacifier. I’m amused by those who won’t, out of some certainty that it’s impossible, without any proof to back up their certainty. Be that as it may, fear/pride/ignorance disguised as intellectual skepticism doesn’t impress me and won’t stop me from believing in (and sharing) the paranormal possibility of that which I personally witnessed. There’s a practical value to believing as well. It was that that kept us from making any direct contact with the pacifier and thus preclude the possibility of us making direct contact with whatever entity placed it there.
I don’t believe the ghost of an innocent child was involved. That she died so young, and was buried in a Catholic cemetery, are more than enough reason to believe she’s resting in paradise, not wandering around a graveyard. So there are only two possibilities as to how it got there. 1) it was left there by some earlier visitor to the garden and we didn’t notice it until late in our arrival despite our standing next to the bench it was discovered on, or 2) something unseen placed the pacifier on the bench when we weren’t looking. The answer is obvious. And spectacular – just like Lizzy!

Thank you for your insight, Dad! You always add great dimension to my posts! This one in particular was startling to me. I know there was no pacifier on that bench when I was sitting on it and changing shoes earlier. The fact that it just appeared after you went back to the graveyard to grab our stuff is no coincidence. Nor, was it coincidence that we saw baby Connie’s headstone. As you said, fortunate for us, we know enough about the paranormal to know not to touch the pacifier. I’m certain that saved us from direct contact from whatever entity placed it there. It’s always so cool to have these experiences! Part of the reason I enjoy visiting graveyards and cemeteries! 🙂

Your heels are so fun although it’s a shame you had to take them off for your walk – they definitely deserve to be worn more! Interesting story with the tombstone too!
