Port Tobacco, MD – No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
As a practicing Roman Catholic, one of my favorite weekly activities is attending Mass. I see it as visiting God in His house once a week. Going to church is also cathartic for me. Whatever struggles I may have encountered during the week dissipates as I participate in the Mass. By the end of Mass my spirit feels renewed, my mind is clear, and I leave with a calming sense of peace.
Of course, sometimes that peace is interrupted by the unknown intentions of geriatric suitors. I suppose it is flattering, but I am in no way interested in dating a man who could be my grandfather! Gross! This latest experience began when I arrived to church late and had to sit in a different area. I sat near this old man who made me feel uncomfortable from the moment I noticed him. Every time my eyes would wander, I would catch him staring at me.
During the Sign of Peace, he held onto my hand with a firm grip until I jerked my hand away. Then, on my way back from Communion, he watched as I walked back to my seat, his eyes never averting.
After Mass, he startled me. He confessed that he had been watching me for years and finally had the courage to tell me: “YOU HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLACK HAIR!” He said it that loud too. I thanked him all the while thinking how did I not notice this guy until now? Then, he told me that I reminded him of his mother because his mother used to have long black hair like me. Yikes! I had no real response except for an acknowledging giggle.
The old man became bolder in approaching me. Yet, I remained permissive because our interaction was limited to the short walk to the parking lot. Unfortunately, my kindness sometimes places me in unintended situations. One weekend he announced he had “something” for me. He had bought a gift for a girl he was in love with 30 years ago. He never gave her the gift because he discovered she was in love with another man. Now, he wanted to give me the gift because I was the same height and build of this girl. He was certain his gift would fit me. He added she had long black hair too.
I did not go back to church the following weekend to receive the gift. Instead, I began going to a different church. Reactions were mixed between family and friends. Some wanted me to accept the present while others told me to stay away. Still, others tried to guess the gift. My dad, for example, thinks the gift is this old man’s mother’s bustle! 😉
I eventually returned to my church and have had no further interactions with this man.
Have a wonderful week. 🙂
Lizzy’s Latest for this week is the Vince Camuto Rhiannon booties. I will give my review of these boots on Wednesday. For now enjoy the pictures! 🙂

Whoa! That was a weird experience. I’m glad you chose not to accept the gift and progress any further. Haha! By the way, your outfit is super pretty and loving those Vince Camuto booties! They’re just lovely.
Have a great week ahead! 🙂

Hi Kavya! I know, right?! I’m glad I avoided this man too! 🙂 Thank you so much for your nice compliment. I was on the fence because the heels are chunkier than what I normally wear, but it is also nice to get out of my comfort zone sometimes. That’s what makes fashion fun. 🙂 I hope you have a fabulous week too! 🙂
